Most of the laid-off workers went to look for sales jobs or returned to their hometown farms.
According to the National Statistical Office, unemployment rose to 1.4% in December, nearly double the level of 0.8% or 220,000 the year before.
Export-oriented industries such as electronics, electrical appliances and autos, as well as the tourism industry, are expected to suffer the worst from the global economic storm.

I think there are problems with the government's policy to help the unemployed.
The government should take a different tack in helping the jobless find work.
They should be more creative and create new job programmes. They can create jobs for programmes such as building an e-archive for the country or employ internet 'cops' for clamping down on obscene websites.
