1,000 police to guard city New Year's countdown

Summary
Due to Eight bombs in Bangkok and one exploded in Nonthaburi on Dec 31, 06; one thousand police officers will guard the New Year’s Eve countdown celebration at Central World and seal off the phone booths in this year for avoiding a repeat tragedy.

There are polices from Division 5, Division 6, the Special operations police division, the Traffic police bureau and the Tourist police bureau to prevent the attacks. For the tightening security, a bomb disposal team will search the bomb in the telephone booths in close area of countdown venue while police officers will patrol and look over.

Moreover, the traffic lane from Ratchaprasong intersection to Pratunam intersection will be closed from 6 pm of Dec 31 to 1 am. of Jan 1.
